“I come from Iran. There was a revolution against the Shah in 1979, with many Muslim people being very angry at the government. There was a lot of fighting and trauma, and life was very hard for any non-Muslims like us. The cost of living was very high, with not much money each week for food. There was eight years war with Iraq, and it was very dangerous for anyone who was not Islamic. There was much bombing.

My wife and children came to Australia in 1982, so I was alone in Iran for many years until I got to Australia in 1994. But I am so happy here, life is very good. I see my children and my grandchildren every week, they enjoy my cooking and I enjoy playing with them. The youngest is eleven.

I work here in the kitchen, and some other places, I like cooking and I always try to keep busy. In this stage of life I am very happy.”
